Established in 1965, Willy’s Electronic Supply started off with humble origins. During the mid-60’s it was commonplace to have your television or audio receivers repaired because buying a new one was simply too expensive. In this market, Roy Williams (Willy) began using his garage to provide replacement parts to repair professionals at reasonable prices.
By the end of the decade Willy’s had grown to be a very popular parts store and this urged Roy to expand the business. He decided to keep the location but expand by purchasing his neighbor’s house and, using the combined properties, begin construction on an 11,000 sq ft commercial building with a full-length basement. Roy set off to work on getting this ambitious project started himself, people who still remember Roy have stories of him with a shovel and wheelbarrow digging out basement. The construction materials used to make the building were impressive: 16” x 6” x 40’ wood beams holding 2-1/2” thick tongue and groove wood planks making up each floor and cement brick exterior with massive steel hangers for each beam. Ultimately the building was finished by his children in 1972, after Roy William’s death in 1971.
The business carried on with Roy’s 2 children running the company until the early 80’s. 1981 the business was sold to the store’s general manager Tom Twamley. Tom had worked at Willy’s since 1976 after his honorable discharge from the US Navy. Tom has been running the National City store for over 40 years through many changes in the market, outlasting many larger competitors. Willy’s opened a second store in 2007 in the Kearny Mesa area into a 4,500 sq ft building before moving to a larger location in 2011 with 8,500 sq ft.
Willy’s Electronic Supply began using the DBA We-Supply in 2015 to simplify the name but continues to be run by the same family with the same ethics and values that have seen us through the many ups and downs in the over the last 40 years. We have had to become flexible within the changing markets and now specialize in AV integration and CCTV surveillance but we still continue to carry multiple lines that specialize in the electronic parts and components. We service many markets including AV integrators, Datacom, government, military, educational institutions, marine, automotive, and consumer-trade. We maintain a large supply of low-voltage products from many major brands including Shure Audio, Middle Atlantic, Klein Tools, Power Sonic Batteries, and many more. We are open to the public in both of our San Diego locations and welcome you to visit us to see what we can offer.
